HISTORY IS WHERE YOU STAND
Part 7: Arts, Crafts and Recreation
The first settlers had to bring everything they wanted with them over long and difficult trails. Their only alternative was to learn how to make it, or simply do without. Over the years, the necessary arts, crafts and skills flourished, followed quickly by those which bring pleasure and a measure of comfort to life. This section examines the whole spectrum of the arts, crafts and recreation as they developed in the Peace River region before radio, telephone, television or decent roads. The cultural and social life of the Peace country was remarkably rich, even in the early days of isolated farms and the unending struggle to survive.
