History is Where You Stand

Part 9: Church Histories

Churches and schools were added to the landscape as soon as there were enough settlers and families to justify the cost and effort of building them. In many places a new church replaced the home of a homesteader who had provided a temporary focus for the spiritual life of the community. Most of the old log churches are gone now and congregations tend to be centralized in the cities. This log church at Cecil Lake is a beautiful example of the older buildings as is the one in Hudson Hope. A new log church has been built quite recently in Progress. Photo by G.Clare
