Part 5 -- Dawson Creek: The Story of the Community
![]() |
George Mercer Dawson did not discover the little river which bears his name -- the Beaver Indians hunted and trapped in the valley for countless generations before the first Europeans arrived. What Dr Dawson did first, though, was to report on the lush grasses and deep, fertile soils along his route from Fort Macleod to Edmonton in the summer of 1879. The small city of Dawson Creek honours this outstanding Canadian geologist. |
