History Is Where You Stand

Part 19: Remebering Our Veterans

The homesteading rush into the BC Peace country came to a virtual standstill when World War I began in the fall of 1914. Many of the young men who had just arrived to begin work on their homesteads immediately headed for Edmonton to sign up. After the war, those who returned were joined by Soldier Settlers who quickly established themselves in Sunset Prairie. World War II brought another wave of enlistments from the area and, of course, the construction of the Alaska Highway. This section of History Is Where You Stand contains brief memoirs of a few of the Peace River veterans and other items related to the men and women who served in the Armed Forces. Articles about member of the Armed Forces actively serving at home or on Peace Keeping missions with the United Nations will also appear in this section as they become available.
