BN14-15: GOVERNOR GENERAL VISITS CHETWYND
March 8, 2000
CHETWYND - Governor General Adrienne Clarkson will be in Chetwynd on Thursday to open a new studio for the towns volunteer radio and television station.
Event organizer Leo Sabulsky convinced Clarkson to come to Chetwynd by writing a letter to her telling about the progress the station has made since it was opened three years ago.
"We used to be in a studio that was eight-feet-by-eight-feet with no air movement at all, basically an airless hole," he said. "And weve built radio and television up to the point where we actually have studios, and walls, and windows.
"And we have a floor where if you drop something it doesnt roll downhill, and you dont leave the door open and have stray dogs come in while youre doing a program.
"We still dont meet the standards of professional and commercial studios, but were very proud of what we have."
Sabulsky believes that Clarksons previous career as a broadcaster had much to do with bringing her to Chetwynd.
"Shes officially coming up for radio and television and I think thats why she came," he said. "Once youre behind the mike, you never forget it."
The grand opening will be held at noon followed by a luncheon at the Pine Valley Exhibition Hall.
