The Doe River School was opened in January of 1921 with Mrs. Dorothy Clark as teacher. The school was a large building and had a room in the back for the teacher’s residence. Three or four years later this building burned to the ground. With the help of the insurance a new school was built in another part of the district as the locale of the school population had changed.

The first year the school opened, a Christmas Concert was held by the children and everyone in the district attended.

Snow was still melted for water in the winter and the rest of the time the teacher carried water in a pail from the water hole. The teacher also did the school janitor work and got in the wood and water for the next day, washed the floors, etc. In 1932 the school was enlarged. In 1937 another small one-room school was built on the school grounds and the lower grades from 1 to 5 were taught in it. In 1949 a modern three-room school was built. By 1950 the Shearerdale and Carpio children were brought to Doe River by bus, making the school attendance more than seventy.
