FARM CRISIS IN THE PEACE -- 1996 & 1997

In most years you can expect to see the combines in the fields in late summer all over the Peace as the hard work and the annual gamble begins to pay off. But 1996 and 1997 were, for many regional farmers, the years without crops. A Farm Crisis Committee was formed to seek help from Victoria to alleviate the worst effects of the crop failure. The local media, business people, general public and political leaders backed the farmers in their demands for some help. The Farm Crisis Committee has now disbanded, its work complete. Through the co-operation of the local MLA's office, the Peace River Block Daily News and the Peace Region Internet Society, the Farm Crisis Committee's web pages are being added to this site.
